Troutman Sanders has opened a new office in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a five-partner team of corporate and real estate lawyers from K&L Gates.

“Charlotte has been on our radar screen for quite some time,” said chairman Robert Webb in a Friday press release. “We were waiting for the right opportunity, and this was it.”

New partner Walter D. Fisher, Jr. will serve as chief of the new Charlotte office. The other new partners from K&L Gates are G. Lee Cory, Jr., David H. Jones, Patrick L. Ridinger, and Paul A. Steffens.

The group has practiced together for nearly 20 years, initially at Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman and then at K&L Gates after the two firms merged in 2008.

Troutman Sanders opened its first office in the state, in Raleigh, in 2003. The new Charlotte office is the 16th for the more than 600-attorney firm. Founded in Atlanta in 1897, Troutman Sanders also has offices in California, Chicago, New York, Oregon, Virginia and Washington, D.C., as well as Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
