Troy Davis Execution Tonight Is Delayed as Nation's Top Court Mulls Last-Minute Appeal

Plans to put the Georgia inmate to death tonight have sparked multiple protests, as he continues to insist that he is innocent of the murder of a Savannah police officer for which he was convicted in 1989. No evidence indisputably ties him to the crime, and seven out of the nine original witnesses against him have recanted.
This is the third time in less than a week that the U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily stayed an execution.
“Easily thousands” of clemency supporters have been chanting outside the prison today as the time , reports the Ledger-Enquirer.
