Officials at the University of California-San Diego are talking about a possible merger with California Western School of Law.

Although a plan hasn’t yet been put down on paper, Cal Western’s dean, Steven Smith, says he hopes it will have been outlined by the end of the year, reports the North County Times.

If it went forward, the merger would create a sixth University of California law school. However, the plan hinges on a no-cost deal from UC-San Diego’s standpoint, Smith says, noting that Cal Western has been in the black 15 of the last 16 years.
