Uncomfortable about directly seeking clients for his auto accident practice, a South Carolina attorney and admitted car buff urges viewers to promote electric-powered vehicles on a television ad.

“I think it’s awful when lawyers go on there begging for someone to have a crash,” Gary Ling tells the Post and Courier, which took note of the unusual approach. “Lawyers should be more discreet in the quality of their ads. One actually has a dog telling an accident victim to go see a certain attorney.”

Ling, who practices in North Charleston, also apparently has kept a low profile on the Internet concerning his law office. He hasn’t totally avoided publicizing his availability for client work, however—the TV ad makes clear that he is an attorney and includes his phone number, the newspaper article notes.
