A new organization that will push for criminal justice reform has backing from both conservatives and liberals.

The recently formed Coalition for Public Safety aims to reduce prison population, change sentencing and reduce recidivism, the New York Times reports. Its advocacy campaign has initial funding of $5 million.

A press release says the new organization “will be the largest national effort working to make our criminal justice system smarter, fairer, and more cost effective.”

Supporters on the conservative side include Koch Industries and FreedomWorks. Backers on the liberal side include the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for American Progress.
