Three years after opening a Dallas office, McDermott Will & Emery is adding as many as 15 lawyers from a rival BigLaw firm.

The group includes six K&L Gates partners, as well as up to nine other lawyers from that firm, the Wall Street Journal Law Blog (sub. req.) reports.

Three of the six partners specialize in mergers and acquisitions, and the other three are technology and outsourcing advisers.

McDermott is “not everything to everybody, but where they’re really good, they’re really deep,” new partner Wilson Chu, who focuses on M&A work, told the newspaper. He said the health care and intellectual property practice groups at McDermott will be mutually beneficial to the work done by the incoming K&L Gates lawyers.

K&L Gates declined to comment when contacted by the WSJ.

A McDermott press release provides more details. It says McDermott expects to have over 20 attorneys working for the firm in Dallas after the K&L Gates lawyers arrive.
