A Virginia lawyer who is an adjunct law professor at George Washington University was injured last night by shots fired through his law office window.
Todd Sanders was working in downtown Leesburg when he was injured, the Washington Post reports. He was treated at a hospital and released. It wasn't clear whether Sanders was injured by the shots or broken glass, according to WUSA9.com.
Police spokesman Wes Thompson said the department was investigating whether the shooting was related to any of Sanders’ cases. A friend told the Post that Sanders primarily represented defendants accused of drunken driving and other traffic offenses, but he also handled “some real strange cases.” He is a former prosecutor and an adjunct professor teaching trial advocacy at George Washington University Law School, according to his law firm profile.
In one case, he represented a woman accused of holding her doctor and his wife at gunpoint because she believed he caused her son’s cerebral palsy. She was found not guilty of several charges by reason of insanity.
