CNN contributor Van Jones will be appearing at an ABA Center for Innovation event at the 2017 ABA Annual Meeting in New York City.

“Just Debt? Reimagining Fines & Fees in America,” which is co-sponsored by the ABA Journal and the National Conference of Bar Presidents, will look at the way legal fines and fees can have collateral consequences like job loss, driving restrictions, foreclosure and even imprisonment. The panel will discuss alternatives to fees and fines, while addressing issues like court funding, which is often supported by these fines.

Jones is an attorney who hosts The Messy Truth with Van Jones on CNN, and is the author of The Green Collar Economy and Rebuild the Dream. In addition to Jones, Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor of the Ohio Supreme Court and Jeff Robinson of the ACLU’s Trone Center for Justice and Equality will be guests on the panel.

The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel. More information about the event and the panelists can be found on the event page. To register for this event, go to the 2017 ABA Annual Meeting page.
