A video released Monday by a San Antonio television station appears to show sheriff’s deputies fatally shooting a man who had his hands in the air while on the lawn outside a home.

A student at the University of Incarnate Word shot the video on Friday and sold it to KSAT 12, an ABC affiliate, which posted the full video Monday afternoon. The video appears to show Gilbert Flores, 41, raising his hands, although the view of one arm is blocked by a pole, the New York Times, the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio News-Express report.

Flores was fatally shot by deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s department. The deputies are on paid leave during an investigation, which is being monitored by civil rights investigators with the FBI, the News-Express reports in another story.

Police were called to the scene for a domestic disturbance. A woman at the scene, who was holding the baby, was cut on the head and bleeding. According to the sheriff, Flores was armed with a knife and the deputies struggled with him while trying to take him into custody.

Bexar County District Attorney Nicholas LaHood said there is a second video of the incident, according to the Houston Chronicle (sub. req.) and the Associated Press. Both videos “are troubling,” he said.

On Facebook, the Sheriff’s department criticized KSAT for posting the video and urged readers to “let the local media know this sort of sensational behavior doesn’t fly in Bexar County.”
