Video Provides Few Clues to Identity of St. Louis-Area Lawyer Bomber
A man who carried a package believed to be a bomb that injured a St. Louis lawyer was captured in a parking garage video, but his face was concealed.
The suspected bomber wore a hood and sunglasses and carried helium balloons that covered his face, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He was carrying a wicker basket decorated with a bow.
The bomb injured 69-year-old John Gillis, a lawyer with Armstrong Teasdale. The bomb exploded when Gillis picked it up. It has been left beside his car in a Clayton, Mo., parking garage in the residential and office complex where he lived.
Gillis, a senior counsel at the law firm, specializes in securities law and mergers and acquisitions. His hobbies include golf, tennis, biking and ancient history, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
Investigators interviewed lawyers at Armstrong Teasdale and searched Gillis’ apartment, but told the Post-Dispatch they don’t know if Gillis was the intended target. There appears to be no connection to a bombing at a law firm in Dalton, Ga. Injured in that bombing were name partner James Phillips, a law firm assistant and two clients. The bomber was killed. He had been embroiled in a land dispute with his son.
