Vault.com surveyed the associates for its 2013 Vault Law 100 rankings. The top 10 firms are:

1) Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz

2) Cravath, Swaine & Moore

3) Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom

4) Sullivan & Cromwell

5) Davis Polk & Wardwell

6) Weil, Gotshal & Manges

7) Simpson Thacher & Bartlett

8) Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton

9) Kirkland & Ellis

10) Latham & Watkins

Dewey & LeBoeuf, ranked 37th last year, is in bankruptcy and off the top 100 list, according to Vault’s blog. Three firms that didn’t make the list last year are now making an appearance: Fenwick & West at No. 94; Wiley Rein at No. 97; and Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman at No. 98.

Among the firms moving up on the list is Latham & Watkins, which had fallen to 17th place after it laid off lawyers in 2009. It climbed back to No. 11 last year and is No. 10 this year. Meanwhile Hogan Lovells rose to the No. 41 spot after its 2010 merger that put it in 51st place.
