The Washington Post has been keeping an uncomfortably close eye on Elena Kagan.

A fashion column in the newspaper critiques Kagan’s wardrobe—it’s “drab” and “dowdy” with “a generous sprinkling of frumpiness”—and even analyzes the way she sits without crossing her legs.

The story notes that Kagan is 50, making her relatively young in Washington, D.C., terms. “Her style, however, makes her seem so much older,” the Post says. “There’s little that could be described as fun, impish or creative in her dress. It’s a wholly middle-age approach to a wardrobe.”

Gawker noted the story with this headline: “Does Elena Kagan Dress Like Someone Who Would Repeal Roe v. Wade?”
