What advice do you have for a winning legal career?
Last week at the Clio Cloud Conference in New Orleans, Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, gave a keynote speech sharing five pieces of advice for success in law.
“A good lawyer makes a living,” was the conclusion of Bharara’s speech, according to Above the Law’s David Lat, who covered the speech. “A great lawyer makes a difference.”
What was Bharara’s advice? First, don’t be a jerk. He quoted Dwight D. Eisenhower: “You don’t lead by hitting people over the head—that’s assault, not leadership.”
And act with integrity—which must be continuously emphasized. Spouses say “I love you” for the duration of the relationship, not just at the wedding.
