What's next for Caitlyn Jenner? Likely a trip to the DMV and a court petition
Caitlyn Jenner showed off her new look this week on the cover of Vanity Fair, but her legal transformation will require a court order.
Jenner will need to get court approval for a name and gender change application, the Associated Press reports. In Los Angeles, seven or eight forms are required, along with a background check and declarations from a physician.
Sasha Buchert, a lawyer with the Transgender Law Center in San Francisco, told AP that the requirements can create obstacles for those navigating the process without a lawyer and on a tight budget.
“It’s a world of difference to have representation to figure out the process,” Buchert said.
Jenner will also have to get a new driver’s license, birth certificate and Social Security card, the story says.
