Which law firms are best for diversity? Vault releases its rankings

Carlton Fields is the best law firm for its diversity efforts, according to 2014 rankings by Vault.com.

The Florida-based law firm was rated best overall for diversity five years in a row, the Careerist reports. It also led separate categories for its diversity efforts in regards to minorities, women, LGBT employees, and individuals with disabilities.

Leading Vault’s list of the top 25 law firms for diversity are:

1) Carlton Fields

2) Ropes & Gray

3) Littler Mendelson

4) Debevoise & Plimpton, and Jenner & Block (tie)

5) Schiff Hardin

The Careerist points out differences with American Lawyer Media’s diversity scorecards, which are due to methodology. The Vault rankings are based on associate rankings of law firm diversity and recruiting initiatives, while ALM’s scores are based on headcount.

ALM ranked Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith tops for diversity, while Carlton Fields was ranked 28th out of 228 firms. For women, the National Law Journal ranked Fragomen Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy as No. 1, while Carlton Fields was 35th out of 281 firms.
