One Minnesota Supreme Court justice made nearly $50,000 apart from his salary last year, and part of the money came from signing autographs.

The justice is Alan Page, a former defensive tackle with the Minnesota Vikings, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He made the most money for any supreme court or appellate judge in the state, the story says.

Minnesota recently toughened its disclosure requirements for judges. Beginning in 2014, all judges will have to list investments, real-estate holdings and even involvement in horse racing, the story says.

A recent report by the Center for Public Integrity gave Minnesota and 42 other states failing grades for disclosure requirements for high court judges. Three states—Montana, Idaho and Utah—have zero disclosure for judges, the center says in this update.

Minnesota’s grade will improve when the new requirements take effect. The two top-scoring states in the report were California and Maryland.
