Who made the Forbes list of '30 Under 30' for law and policy?
Forbes’ list of “30 Under 30” for tech law and policy includes eight people who work on privacy and free-speech issues related to disclosures about the U.S. surveillance program.
One of the eight is Nabiha Syed, a 28-year-old lawyer with Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, Forbes says in an introduction to its list. She is part of a team representing the U.S. offices of the Guardian, which published Edward Snowden’s revelations about the National Security Agency’s spy program. Forbes says she is considered “one of the best emerging free speech lawyers.”
Others on the list include:
• Josh Blackman, 29, a law professor, writer and founder of the FantasySCOTUS website, where players compete to predict Supreme Court decisions.
• Adam Chandler, 29, the youngest lawyer handling antitrust appeals for the U.S. government. In a New York Times op-ed, he pondered the reasons for his success, wondering if being gay in a rural, religious town led him to seek to prove his self-worth.
• Jake Heller, 29, who left Ropes & Gray to pursue Casetext, which takes a “Wikipedia-like approach” to add descriptions and other content to case law research.
• Yihong “Julie” Mao, 27, a lawyer with the New Orleans Workers’ Center for Racial Justice.
• Amie Stepanovich, 28, director of the domestic surveillance project for the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
• Rebecca Vallas, 29, deputy director of government affairs for the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives.
