A Kentucky personal injury lawyer who broke his neck in a Jan. 19 bicycle accident is eager to return to part-time work.

Darryl Isaacs, described as a “famed accident lawyer” in a Louisville Courier-Journal article, told the newspaper he’s lucky to be alive. He recently took his first steps since the accident, and he hopes to return to part-time work in as little as two weeks.

Isaacs’ firm initially declined to give information about his injuries, but Isaacs agreed to give the Courier-Journal a phone interview from his hospital room.

“I don’t want the public to think I’m dead,” he explained. Isaacs also noted that, “There are a lot of lawyers scrambling around for cases.”

Isaacs told the newspaper that doctors had to reattach his scalp and fuse two of his vertebrae.

The accident was caused when a 20-year-old driver struck Isaacs on his bicycle as he was waiting to make a left turn. Isaacs, who calls himself the “Heavy Hitter” and the “Kentucky Hammer” in marketing, says he doesn’t know if he’ll sue.
