President Barack Obama is expected to nominate Stephen Preston, a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, to be the next general counsel of the CIA.
Preston, a Harvard Law School graduate, would likely face questions in Senate nomination hearings about his views on waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques, reports The BLT: the Blog of Legal Times. During the Clinton administration, Preston was general counsel of the Navy and acting general counsel of the Defense Department.
Preston is co-chair of Wilmer’s defense, national security, and government contracts practice group.
