Obama Said to Favor Napolitano for Homeland Security Job
Another lawyer is expected to get the nod for a government post in the Obama administration.
Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, a former U.S. attorney and state attorney general, is Barack Obama’s pick to be secretary of homeland security, sources told the Washington Post and New York Times.
The ABA Journal had correctly called the Napolitano nomination in an article on likely lawyer nominees for government positions in an Obama administration. The magazine also correctly predicted that former Justice Department official Eric Holder was a likely nominee for attorney general, although it also said Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick was another likely contender for the job.
But the ABA Journal had predicted Williams & Connolly partner Greg Craig would get the nod for secretary of state; instead he got the job of White House counsel and a different lawyer, Sen. Hillary Clinton, is reportedly under consideration for secretary of state. The ABA Journal had predicted Perkins Coie partner Robert Bauer would get the White House counsel job.
The ABA Journal also had named Valerie Jarrett as possible secretary of housing and urban development. Instead she has been named a senior White House adviser.
