At one time, Andrew Tomback, Steven Cohen and Paul Shechtman all served together as assistant U.S. attorneys in the Southern District of New York.

They are back together again at Zuckerman Spaeder in New York, where the lawyers are building a criminal defense practice for the law firm, according to a press release and the New York Times DealBook blog.

Cohen is a former top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Shechtman was a name partner at the criminal defense boutique Stillman, Friedman & Shechtman. And Tomback was a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.

Andrew Levander, a white-collar defense lawyer at Dechert, offered DealBook his take on the acquisitions. “Zuckerman has made a smart investment in an extremely talented trio of quintessential New York lawyers,” he said.
