Woman Who Returned Adopted Son to Russia Faces Lawsuit by Adoption Agency
The American woman who sent her adopted son back to Russia was never charged with a criminal offense, but she faces a lawsuit by the adoption agency.
The suit filed against Torry Hansen in Shelbyville, Tenn., seeks child support, the Associated Press reports. According to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, the World Association for Children and Parents filed the suit in May 2010, a month after the 7-year-old boy was placed on a plane to Russia with a note saying he was violent and Hansen didn’t want him anymore.
The agency asked to be appointed temporary guardian for the child, the Times-Gazette says. In November, a judge ruled that the news media could attend the trial, now scheduled for March 27.
The Times-Gazette cites a report by the Russian States News Agency that the boy is living in SOS Children’s Village in Russia. His new mother also cares for 16 other children and has past experience raising abandoned kids.
