Woman's 'Like' of Sheriff's Facebook Page Points Deputies to Photos of Wanted Man On Her Own Page
A Virginia woman allegedly trying to help her boyfriend hide from Maryland authorities apparently took a look at a sheriff’s Facebook page to see if law enforcement officers were looking for him.
However, when 22-year-old Samantha Nicole Dillow hit the “like” button she set in motion a chain of events that soon put authorities on the trail of Dyllan Otto Naecker, 29, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports.
Checking to see who had “liked” the Tazewell County sheriff’s office, Major Harold Heatley looked at the photos on Dillow’s Facebook page and realized that some included a man who appeared to be Naecker. After confirming with Maryland authorities that he was the wanted man, the sheriff’s office tracked down her home in Bluefield, Va., and went there to see if they could find Naecker.
Although Dillow denied that he was there, he was. And, in addition to arresting him in the Maryland case, they charged her with obstruction of justice.
“Once she ‘liked’ our Facebook page, she put everything in motion for us to make the arrest,” Sheriff Brian Hieatt told the newspaper. “She wanted to get updated to see if we were searching for us. If she wouldn’t have liked us, we might not have located him this quickly.”
