Updated: A survey of a little over 5,000 small and midsize law firms found that women attorneys, regardless of experience and practice area, bill at lower rates than men.

“The average billing rate for women was $224 per hour, compared with $245 per hour for men. The highest hourly rate for women was $269 per hour, compared with $296 among men,” reports the National Law Journal in an article reprinted by New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

The survey was conducted by ALM Research. It and the National Law Journal are part of a group owned by Incisive Media.
