Yoga Is Becoming the New Golf, In NYC and Some Law Firms
Do you really need to learn golf to advance your career? Or is learning to limber up more important?
In New York City, golf is old school, the New York Post reports. “Pack up the golf clubs and roll out the mats—yoga is the hottest sport for NYC high-fliers looking to bond with the boss,” the Post writes. “A calm, intimate activity that requires mental strength and physical agility, office yogis swear the sport betters their bodies—and their office standing.”
Yoga is trendy in the legal world as well. Last year, the American Lawyer reported that several law firms offer yoga classes, including O’Melveny & Myers in Newport Beach, Calif.; Dickstein Shapiro in Washington, D.C.; and Burch, Porter & Johnson in Memphis.
At Nixon Peabody in Washington, D.C., office managing partner Jeffrey Lesk organized a weekly yoga class and an office bike-sharing program. “People are never nervous walking by my office with a gym bag,” he told the Washington Post last November.
