A Georgia teen who received a mandatory 10-year sentence for consensual sex with a 14-year-old girl will be released from prison within days under a plea deal.

A Georgia judge agreed to the deal for Joshua Widner yesterday, according to the Fulton County Daily Report.

Widner had taken his case to the Georgia Supreme Court and lost. He contended his mandatory 10-year sentence for having sex with a 14-year-old girl who was more than four years younger was cruel and unusual punishment.

Widner had fared more poorly than Genarlow Wilson, who won his challenge to a 10-year sentence for having sex with a 15-year-old girl who was two years younger than him.
