A well-known Chicago-based firm is establishing a West Coast presence, raiding two San Diego law offices to open a six-attorney outpost there. (It will also be staffed from the outset with seven Ph.D-credentialed specialists, and two of the lawyers apparently have Ph.Ds, too.)

The partners at the helm of Bell, Boyd & Lloyd's new San Diego office are Stephanie Seidman, a patent attorney who holds a Ph.D in molecular biology and biochemistry, and David Fisher, a corporate lawyer, according to a press release in which the firm announces its plans today. The two join Bell, Boyd from the San Diego office of Fish & Richardson and Fisher Thurber, respectively, where both were partners.

The firm's new San Diego office, which will serve as a center for the firm's life sciences practice, headed by Seidman, is expected to focus on corporate, venture capital and intellectual property matters.

In addition to Chicago and San Diego, Bell, Boyd also has an office in Washington, D.C. Its attorney roster numbers approximately 260.
