The number of black law partners in New York City firms is around 125, and a significant number are interested in helping Barack Obama.

Jeh Johnson, an Obama fund-raiser and policy adviser, is a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. He asked the black partners group to meet in June to discuss the Obama campaign. About 35 attended in person and several others participated by conference call, the New York Sun reports.

Another Obama fund-raiser and adviser is Gordon Davis of Dewey & LeBoeuf.

“The efforts of both men have extended far beyond raising money, providing introductions for the candidate, and preparing advice on election law,” the story says. “Both men have put in time as campaign grunts, traveling across state lines to hand out leaflets and knock on doors.”

Other New York partners supporting Obama include Darrell Gay of Arent Fox, Ralph Dawson of Fulbright & Jaworski, and Lisa Davis of Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
