Legal Blogger Auditions for ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’

By Debra Cassens Weiss

Legal blogger and lawyer Howard Bashman traveled to New York yesterday to audition for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Bashman writes on his How Appealing blog that he passed the written test for trivia knowledge and then met with a producer who evaluated his personality. He’ll learn whether he made the cut by way of a postcard in a few weeks. “And then I can begin to evaluate whether I might be fortunate enough to have a certain public intellectual and prolific author based in Chicago agree to serve as one of my ‘phone-a-friends,’ ” he writes.

Bashman told ABAJournal.com the tryout was his wife's idea. “My wife encouraged me to go because we started watching the show together and I seemed to know the answers to many questions,” he said.

Bashman says that even if he appears on the show and wins the $1 million prize, it won’t be enough to give up blogging. “So fans of this blog have nothing to fear, while critics of this blog are urged to start raising extreme amounts of money immediately.”

Updated at 11:08 a.m. to add a comment from Bashman and clarify that he both took the written test and met with a producer yesterday.

University of San Diego law professor and pop culture blogger Junichi Semitsu appeared on Millionaire earlier this year.  He gave a very entertaining account of his experience on his blog at http://poplicks.com/2008_01_01_poplicks_archive.html.

But Bushman’s appearance on the show would be especially interesting if either Becker or Posner (could it be?!!!) agrees to be his phone-a-friend.

’Wonder if he’ll bill his time to client development

He hasn’t even made the show yet? Who cares then? Next ABA article: “We Heard That Someone is Planning to do Something Soon But Has Not Gotten Around to it Yet.”

Although your phone-a-friend’s intelligence is important, the MOST important thing is that ALL of your p-a-f alternatives be sitting next to the phone and ON-LINE READY TO EXECUTE A SEARCH.  Bring all that IQ to the table buddy.

Agreed with #6.  How is that newsworthy? Anyone can go audition for that show as many times as they want.  I’ve passed the written test on several occasions, but sadly I never got picked to go on the show.  I guess they must have already filled their quota of super-cuties for those seasons (har har).

"certain public intellectual and prolific author based in Chicago"…

Hmmm.... Could that be Scott Turow?
