DA Fires Veteran Utah Prosecutor Who Opposed Her in Election

A county district attorney in Utah has reportedly fired a veteran prosecutor who was an opposing candidate in the primary of her 2006 election campaign.
Prosecutor Kent Morgan says he was fired on Monday by a "kangaroo court" in the office of Salt Lake County District Attorney Lohra Miller, reports the Desert Morning News. The stated reason for his termination, he says, was that he allegedly leaked confidential information to a friend facing criminal charges.
But that isn't true, Morgan contends: "I stayed away from my friend's case," he tells the newspaper. "I referred him to an attorney and didn't discuss the case with him at all and maintained my friendship."
A spokesman for Miller says the office can't comment about personnel issues, mentioning a countywide policy not to do so.
Both Morgan and Miller are Republicans.
