‘Dark Forces’ Can’t Stop Colombian AG

The attorney general of Colombia tells the Miami Herald he is “committed to this whole process of opening up cases and unearthing the truth.”

Attorney General Mario Iguarán has filed cases against influential politicians and military officials who are undermining Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, the newspaper reports. Prosecutions allege officials are cooperating with right-wing paramilitary groups. These allegations have led Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt., to freeze $55 million in U.S. aide to Colombia, the Los Angeles Times reports.

“Dark forces” are trying to stop his investigations, Iguarán says, but the Miami Herald reports they don’t appear to be succeeding.
