Defendant Decks Juror, Doesn’t K.O. Case

Decking an elderly juror in full view of 15 other members of the panel didn't end a defendant's ongoing criminal trial in Massachusetts.
That's because it would be unfair to allow the defendant to benefit from his own disruptive behavior, a Boston judge ruled today, when counsel for Richard Glawson, 46, sought a mistrial after his client landed a punch Friday on the juror. However, the judge did dismiss the juror, an elderly man who was not injured, and ordered Glawson shackled for the rest of his trial, AP reports.
(After further consideration, though, the judge questioned jurors about potential prejudice the next day and granted the mistrial, AP later reported.)
