Deportee Without a Country to Be Released

A federal judge has ordered the federal government to free a man it seeks to deport because it took too long to find a country willing to accept him.
U.S. District Judge Jerome Barry Friedman of Norfolk, Va., ordered the release of the detainee within 14 days, according to the New York Times.
Majed T. Hajbeh says he made a mistake when he checked “single” instead of “married” on papers he filled out when entering the United States, but the government contended he should be ousted for the incorrect information.
Jordan refused to accept Hajbeh because he had been convicted in absentia of several bombings there; Hajbeh claims the conviction was invalid.
