Deputy AG Jumps to Baker

Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty is jumping to a big law firm: Baker & McKenzie. His new job should pay enough to help him finance college for his children, his stated reason for leaving the Justice Department.
The Wall Street Journal's Law Blog reports that McNulty will work in the firm’s D.C. office where he will focus on business crimes and internal corporate investigations.
While at DOJ, McNulty wrote the McNulty Memorandum, described in a Baker & McKenzie press release as “an essential element in determining how a corporation should respond to allegations of criminal wrongdoing.” The memo curbed prosecutors' power to prod companies to waive attorney client privilege, but critics said it should have gone further to protect the privilege.
President Bush has named a career prosecutor, Craig Morford, to replace McNulty when he leaves. ABAJournal.com noted in an earlier post that it’s unknown if the appointment is only temporary.
