A Michigan-based midsize law partnership has opened a Nashville, Tenn., office by acquiring a local 19-attorney firm.

Stewart Estes & Donnell merged on Jan. 1 with Dickinson Wright, which now has an attorney roster of 260, reports the Nashville Business Journal. In addition to offices throughout Michigan, the 130-year-old Dickinson firm also has a presence in Washington, D.C., and Toronto, and an association with a law firm in China.

"We are combining with a firm that has a national reputation, well-established relationships with clients in Tennessee and an interest in doing business in the South,” Thomas Donnell Jr. of Stewart Estes & Donnell tells the business publication. It says that Dickinson Wright plans to add more lawyers soon.

In addition to providing Dickinson Wright with a broader national platform, the merger "strengthens and expands Dickinson Wright's client service in several key areas, including the automotive industry, as well as litigation, employment law and entertainment law," the Dickinson firm says in a press release about the merger.
