Digital Cameras Make Difference in Abuse Cases

Domestic abuse victims notoriously can be reluctant to prosecute, once the immediate attack is over. But police in Queens, N.Y., have found a way to up the ante of successful prosecutions, even when victims refuse to cooperate.
Equipped with digital cameras, they are taking pictures of lacerations, bruises and other obvious injuries, reports the New York Times. In the five years they have been using the cameras, convictions in domestic abuse cases have gone up significantly.
Although instant cameras had been used previously for this purpose, the photographs they produce are of poorer quality and tend to fade. Hence, digital cameras are credited with making a difference, the article explains.
