Dog Gets Its Day With Order of Protection

A Connecticut judge has issued an order of protection for a dog named Riley.

Cassandra Reynolds must stay 100 yards away from the golden retriever after her arrest for allegedly kicking the dog in a dispute with her ex-husband, the New York Times reports. The judge issued the order Sept. 24, even though a new Connecticut law allowing orders of protection for animals did not take effect until Monday.

Reynolds’ lawyer, Jon Berman, disputes the police account and says his client did not kick Riley. “She’s a real animal lover,” he said.

New York, Vermont and Maine are among the other states that allow protective orders for animals.
