DOJ Perjury Probe of Roger Clemens Sought by Congressional Committee

A Congressional committee has asked for a Department of Justice investigation of possible perjured testimony by Roger Clemens concerning his alleged use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform sent a letter today to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey requesting the probe of the major league baseball star pitcher, Bloomberg reports.
"We believe that his testimony in a sworn deposition on Feb. 5, 2008, and at a hearing on Feb. 13, 2008, that he never used anabolic steroids or human growth hormone, warrants further investigation,'' states the letter, which is signed by committee Chairman Henry Waxman and ranking Republican Tom Davis.
As discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, even many of his fans doubted Clemens' testimony at the Feb. 13 hearing.
"His story doesn't ring true," contended Richard Justice in a Houston Chronicle editorial written immediately after the hearing. "Those are painful words to write because Roger Clemens has always represented professional sports at its best. He stood for the right things."
