Citing low work volumes, one of Pittsburgh's largest firms has announced it is laying off 90 temporary attorneys.

The layoffs come from Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott's document coding center, the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.

Timothy Ryan, the firm's managing partner, said the layoffs were necessary after client contracts expired at the beginning of the month and there was no replacement work. There are about 60 temporary lawyers left at the center.

"The firm does expect new contract work to commence at the center in the future and plans to hire a substantial number of attorneys as clients approve the start of those projects," Ryan is quoted saying.

Eckert Seamans has about 315 full-time attorneys working in 10 offices throughout the northeast.
