Ex-AT&T Worker Urges Congress to Reject Immunity in Privacy Suits

Lawyers from the Electronic Frontier Foundation accompanied a former AT&T employee to Congress yesterday to urge lawmakers to allow lawsuits against his former employer for revealing customer data.
Retired AT&T technician Mark Klein says AT&T cooperated with a government program to examine huge amounts of phone and Internet records, apparently to look for usage patterns and content that could be used to find terrorists, the Washington Post reports.
Klein told the Post he doesn’t regret blowing the whistle on his past bosses. "If they've done something massively illegal and unconstitutional—well, they should suffer the consequences," he said.
Thirty-eight pending lawsuits against telecommunications companies claim they illegally participated in the spy program. The Judiciary Committee is expected to consider legislation tomorrow that would give the companies immunity.
