Three law firms that once talked to Heller Ehrman about possible mergers may hire some of the firm’s practice groups, firm managers said in a partner conference call last Thursday.

Managers said they expected to hear within the next few days whether the firms would pick up parts or practice groups at Heller, the Recorder reports. The three firms are Winston & Strawn, Baker & McKenzie and Mayer Brown.

A legal recruiter who requested anonymity told the Recorder that Heller has three main practice groups: its Venture Law Group, securities and antitrust lawyers, and its insurance recovery group.

Heller partners were informed last Wednesday that dissolution is possible. About 50 partners have already left the firm this year or announced plans to do so.
