The former chief assistant prosecutor for Lorain County in Elyria, Ohio, was shot by his son on Saturday, and a recorded 911 call caught the aftermath.

Lawyer Jonathan Rosenbaum was shot by his 23-year-old son at a gun club where the two were shooting clay pigeons, the Chronicle-Telegram reports. He is paralyzed beneath the waist. Physicians don’t know if it is permanent.

The son, Aaron Rosenbaum, told deputies he was trying to clear a jammed shell from his shotgun when it accidentally fired, police told the newspaper. But the elder Rosenbaum had doubts, according to a recorded 911 call made by Aaron Rosenbaum.

Aaron Rosenbaum can be heard in the muffled conversation telling his father he was angry before the shooting and repeatedly saying he was sorry, the Chronicle-Telegram story says. It reports this conversation:

Jonathan Rosenbaum: “You [expletive] shot me on purpose?”

Aaron Rosenbaum: “No, I did not. I’m sorry.”

Jonathan Rosenbaum: “You liar.”

Aaron Rosenbaum: “I did not shoot you on purpose.”

Later Aaron Rosenbaum tells his father, “The shell was jammed in the gun, and I was trying to get it out, and it just went off.” The newspaper posted the recordings. The second one has the son's call.
