A retired prosecutor who currently practices law and works as a judge in a small town in Georgia is hospitalized with severe head injuries after being beaten in his legal office.

Glenn Thomas Jr., 74, allegedly was beaten by an ex-con who had contact with him when he was a prosecutor, reports the Savannah Morning News. Authorities did not directly say, however, that the motive for the attack was retribution on the part of alleged assailant Bobby Rex Stribling, 45.

"He does have a history with the judge, but why he was over there [at the judge's office], we can't really say right now," Mike McDaniel told the paper. He is special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Kingsland.

Thomas, who serves as the Recorder's Court judge in Jessup, was attacked Monday and is now hospitalized in Savannah. Stribling was arrested Tuesday, allegedly shortly after he ditched the judge's late-model gray Ford F-150 pick-up truck, and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, motor vehicle theft, armed robbery and burglary, according to McDaniel.
