Five Prosecutors Hit on Vote Fraud

Five out of 12 U.S. attorneys targeted to be fired were the subject of GOP complaints about being lax on voter fraud.

The Washington Post relied on interviews, documents and recent testimony to piece together the details. Political adviser Karl Rove was among those pressing for the prosecutions.

The motive of administration officials, though, is unclear, says Rick Hasen, a professor at Loyola Law School and the author of an election law blog.

It’s not known "whether they believed there was a lot of fraud and U.S. attorneys would ferret it out, or whether they believed there wasn't a lot of fraud but the allegations would serve political purposes," he told the newspaper.
