Florida Law Firms Prepare for Disaster

Miami-area law firms are investing in technology to protect their records and keep connected in the event of a hurricane.

One well-prepared firm, Shutts & Bowen in Miami, houses computer hardware at a hurricane-proof building, the Daily Business Review reports. It has issued laptops to lawyers so they can work away from the office and satellite phones to firm leaders so they can keep in touch.

At Miami’s Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, in the event of a storm, phones and servers will be switched to networks outside of the region, the newspaper reports.

Other firms have created disaster preparedness guides, arranged for transportation and hotel space for attorneys, and planned for emergency record storage.
