The only law school in New Hampshire has announced that it is considering a merger with a state university.

Franklin Pierce Law Center, a private ABA-accredited institution in Concord, N.H., says in a just-issued joint press release that it is in discussions with the University of New Hampshire about combining operations.

"UNH and Franklin Pierce are each forming committees to study the possible merger and make recommendations," but merger discussions remain in the early stages, reports the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Recommendations from the committees are expected by spring.

Huddleston emphasized that any merger would be cost-neutral to UNH, which has had some budget deficit issues in recent years, the newspaper notes.
