By Debra Cassens Weiss

An associate at Fulbright & Jaworski’s Hong Kong office is a former Chinese rhythmic gymnastics national champ.

Hailan Fan is on leave from the firm to manage media commentators and set up interviews at the Olympics. She told the Am Law Daily that she was only 6 years old when she was selected to train and around 10 or 11 when she became a professional rhythmic gymnast. She attended law school in China and then at UCLA.

Her job with Fulbright & Jaworski focuses on mergers and acquisitions involving Chinese and American companies. “China right now is opening the market so a lot of international transactions come to China,” she says. “To be an attorney you have to know more and more about international issues.”
