Gary Condit’s Second Defamation Suit Against Writer Is Tossed

A federal judge has dismissed a second defamation lawsuit filed by former Congressman Gary Condit against writer Dominick Dunne for comments in connection with the case of a murdered intern.
U.S. District Judge Peter Leisure of Manhattan dismissed the suit, saying Dunne was expressing an opinion that was protected by the First Amendment and California law, McClatchy News reports. Dunne settled an earlier lawsuit in March 2005 that also accused him of defamation in the unsolved case of murdered intern Chandra Levy. Condit has not denied media reports of sexual involvement with Levy, the story says.
The new suit centered on comments Dunne made about Condit in November 2005 on CNN’s Larry King Live. "I think he knows more about what did happen than he has ever said," Dunne said.
Condit has filed about a half-dozen defamation lawsuits related to the Levy case. Some have settled, and some have been dismissed, according to the story.
