Famed trial lawyer Gerry Spence says there is a reason for his winning trial record: good preparation.

Spence has never lost a criminal case and hasn’t lost a civil case since 1969. In a podcast interview on Lawyer2Lawyer, Spence explains his methods, Legal Blog Watch reports.

“I see trial lawyers in the same way as I see fighters in the boxing ring. A fighter doesn't go into the boxing ring unprepared,” Spence says. “When I walk into a courtroom, I become absolutely glued to the fight. I become focused on it. I become the fight. I become involved down to the toenails. And there isn't any room for thinking about loss, there is only room to think about the fight.”
