An investigation into the culprits who supplied contraband skivvies to detainees at Guantanamo Bay has ended without an answer to the mystery.

Capt. Pat McCarthy told reporters the investigation is closed, Reuters reports.

The military for a time wondered whether two lawyers for a British human rights group had smuggled in the Under Armour briefs worn by two of their clients. One of the detainees also had a Speedo bathing suit.

But lawyers for the group Reprieve denied any involvement, calling the accusation “patently absurd.”

The skivvies and swim wear were made of strong fabric that could be used to fashion a noose. The underwear caper "sounds funny until a guy is hanging at the end of a Speedo drawstring," said McCarthy.
